--GRANT HER LANDED STATUS IN CANADA--
Haleh Sahba is a refugee claimant in Vancouver- Canada whose case is rejected. Haleh has spent almost 3 years struggling with Immigration of Canada to be recognized as a refugee, and like more than 90% of applicants, her case was denied! Now, after 3 years of trying to build a life here, Immigration Canada has booked a flight to deport her to Iran on Tuesday Dec 7, 2004 at 10:30 AM.
On July 2000 She was arrested as one of the protest organizers in student’s movement in Tehran. On the other hand, her X-husband was involved in the event, taking advantage of the situation and forcing her to drop and disregard their divorce file. Her condition was jeopardised and aggravated to the point that on January 2001, She fled country and came to Canada. She claimed refugee on the
Humanitarian & Compassionate ground, and as with most abused women, Immigration Canada refused to acknowledge that she would face danger if forced to return to Iran. Without status, Haleh worked as assistant manager in Star Bucks for almost 2 years, although she carries a BS Degree in English Studies and long experience as a Piano Teacher. During her stay in Canada, she actively supported and participated in Iranian Movement For Women’s Right and voluntarily worked for some women centres.
Haleh’s family lives in Canada. She has no one in Iran and no prospects for employment. On the other hand, being forced to return to Iran has always been her greatest fear. Once in Iran, she will certainly be detained and probably imprisoned for her past records and activities.
Republic Islamic of Iran is known as anti-women worldwide. Human Rights are vastly violated by the state, and this has been acknowledged and filed by Canada. Zahra Kazemi’s case as a vivid example is still ongoing! While Foreign Minister of Canada and new ambassador of Canada in Iran are actively following the violation of Human Right in Iran, it is unfortunate that Immigration Canada is sending Haleh back to danger and death.
